About / Biographic Information:
Keizo Matsui was born in Hiroshima and studied at the Art University of Osaka. After working in the advertising department of Takashimaya Department Store, he established his own studio in 1984, which later became Hundred Design Inc. in 1992. His work for global clients includes corporate identity, signage, packaging, and exhibition design. Matsui's design philosophy embraces the "global village," searching for innovation while valuing traditional techniques expressed through digital technology.
The poster "Graphikdesign aus Japan" was created for an exhibition of his work held at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg in 1999.
Description:
This promotional poster features a stylized, face-like composition with prominent, almond-shaped eyes and a red mouth with teeth. The design uses soft gradients and textures that reflect Matsui's interest in the creativity of ancient peoples and his use of the computer to express the merits of traditional approaches. The text at the top identifies the exhibition dates as August 22 to September 15, 1999, at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg.
